Healthy nutrition is important as we age. The Food Depository works to ensure that older adults living on fixed incomes do not experience hunger. In fact, 36% of the households we serve include at least one person over the age of 60. Our programs help provide food, support and hope to adults of all ages.
Older Adult Community Markets
The Food Depository provides food for Older Adult Community Markets throughout Cook County. In these markets, individuals aged 60 and above can choose from a variety of fresh produce and nonperishable food items.
Resident and Produce Markets
In 2007, the Food Depository began providing on-site grocery programs at residential locations providing support for individuals 60 years and older with low income. This program helps stretch tight grocery budgets by providing residents at these locations with nutritious food to prepare at home.
