Statement on the passing of Regina Brown-White

The Greater Chicago Food Depository mourns the loss of Regina Brown-White, who died recently at the age of 44.

Regina was instrumental in establishing and operating the food pantry at Blue Cap, a nonprofit in south suburban Blue Island that empowers people with intellectual disabilities. Thanks in large part to Regina’s hard work and perseverance, the pantry began serving the community in September 2018. In addition to providing food for its neighbors, the Blue Cap pantry provides job training for its participants with intellectual disabilities.

“I always wanted to do something where I could help people,” Regina told us during a recent visit. Regina helped countless people through her work as Blue Cap’s life enrichment coordinator, and in her previous role at the Little City Foundation. We’ll remember her for her kind and joyful spirit, and for her laughter that filled the room. She was selfless and determined. She’s gone far too soon, but her legacy of serving others will live on. We wish Regina’s family and friends peace in her memory.
