Sonia Garcia, Manager of Benefits Outreach at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, has been selected as a 2025–26 University of Chicago Obama Foundation Scholar. She is one of 18 students chosen for this program, which recognizes emerging leaders committed to positive change in Chicago and beyond.
In addition to her full-time role at the Food Depository, Garcia is pursuing a master’s degree in Social Sector Leadership and Nonprofit Management at the University of Chicago, with plans to graduate this June. She is passionate about health care equity and views the Obama Scholars program as an opportunity to deepen her leadership skills and broaden her impact.
The Obama Foundation Scholars program provides real-world skills, tools and experiences to build upon the scholars' work in their communities and explore models for leadership and social change. Since its inception in 2018, the program has supported 190 leaders from 67 countries. Congratulations to Garcia on this well-deserved recognition!
