Hunger in Chicago
More than 860,000 people in Cook County--1 in 6 people--are food insecure and unsure of when they will receive their next meal. In some communities, more than 1 in 3 people are food insecure. The number of people served by the Greater Chicago Food Depository and its network of 650 partners including 400 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters has steadily increased in recent years. The Food Depository has conducted several research efforts (links at left) that help to better understand hunger in our community.
