Greater Chicago Food Depository board chair Dr. John Jay Shannon authored an op-ed for the Chicago Sun-Times that highlights the irreplaceable value of healthy prepared meals for some of our neighbors facing hunger. Last year, the Food Depository opened our new prepared meal center – Chicago’s Community Kitchens – to provide more nutritious meals for older adults, people with disabilities and other neighbors at increased risk of food insecurity. Our team in Chicago’s Community Kitchens is currently preparing and distributing approximately 3,000 scratch-made meals every day for these populations. Eventually we will reach capacity of 10,000 healthy prepared meals per day. This is possible thanks to the generosity of our supporters.
