September Is Hunger Action Month!
This September is Hunger Action Month—a nationwide effort to motivate local action to end hunger. This year, the Greater Chicago Food Depository is issuing a call-to-action for everyone in Chicago and Cook County to get involved.
Raising awareness during Hunger Action Month is more important now than ever before. Though food insecurity estimates are improving, they remain well above pre-pandemic levels. Feeding America, the national network of food banks, projects that 613,360 people in Cook County are living in food insecure households in 2021–an increase of more than 27 percent from the 481,720 people estimated as food insecure in 2019.
