The Citadel Foundation named Prized Partner of the Quarter

Prized Partner of the Quarter: The Citadel FoundationThe Citadel Foundation has been chosen as the Greater Chicago Food Depository’s Prized Partner of the Quarter for the third quarter of fiscal year 2009-2010 for its financial support, dedication to volunteerism and awareness-raising efforts surrounding the issue of hunger in our community.

The Citadel Foundation, the charitable affiliate of Citadel, donated $150,000 earlier this year to support a new Food Depository nutrition project to benefit Chicago Public School students. The Foundation helped connect the Food Depository with University of Chicago researchers, who will help design and implement the project while measuring its impact on students.

In February, 30 volunteers from the Foundation repacked 756 pounds of cereal for distribution—more than 1,500 individual bags. Citadel volunteers continue to help out at the Food Depository every Wednesday night as well.

“The Citadel Foundation has been generous with its time and funds,” said Kate Maehr, executive director of the Greater Chicago Food Depository. “The Foundation’s commitment to addressing the root causes of hunger is an invaluable asset to the Food Depository during the past year. We are very fortunate to have their support in the fight against hunger.”
