GCFD food rescue

The Food Rescue program retrieves quality perishable, shelf-stable and frozen foods that are ready to come out of stock from more than 240 retail grocer locations throughout Cook County. Using refrigerated trucks, our food sanitation-trained drivers redistribute these items—from packaged produce, meats and poultry to canned goods, dairy and bakery goods—to provide nutritious foods to our member pantries, soup kitchens and shelters.

As a result of the Food Rescue program, more than 12 million pounds of food was turned into meals for Cook County's hungry last year. These food donations provide our soup kitchens, shelters and pantries with easy-to-serve, nutritious food for their clients.

We’re equipped to accept donations of dry, refrigerated and frozen products and we can pick up all donations, saving your company transportation expenses. For more information on making a food industry donation, please call 773-843-2656.
