The Sixth Annual Canstruction Chicago began May 3, 2012. Take a look at the one-of-a-kind structures on display in the first floor lobby of the Merchandise Mart.

Please bring your canned food donation to the Merchandise Mart, First Floor lobby, and drop it in one of the Greater Chicago Food Depository Food Drive barrels. Can't attend? Donate to our virtual drive.

Since 2007, Canstruction Chicago has raised more than 450,000 pounds of canned food or 369,231 meals for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, making Canstruction the largest single day food drive. This is an incredible feat for ending hunger in Cook County.

This year's sculptures were built from 94,436 cans - more than 85,000 pounds of food. All cans used in the sculptures benefit the Food Depository. Be sure to bring your canned food items to the exhibit at the Merchandise Mart's first floor lobby throughout May to increase this number! Canstruction sculptures will be on display through May 31.

Since January 19 competing teams have been crafting their design, visiting grocery stores to research cans, practicing their builds, and raising funds for their structures – all leading up to build night where from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. they brought their creations to life.

On May 10 these teams that have put an immense amount of time, effort and thought into their designs attended the A-can-emy Awards Gala and Cocktail Party as our judges awarded the most creative structures.

It starts with one can. To feed the hungry. To lift the spirit. To change the world. Canstruction, a charity committed to ending hunger, is using 'one can' as a catalyst for change. Each year, 678,000 people turn to the Food Depository. Canstruction Chicago's annual design/build competition puts a visual spotlight on hunger while showcasing the Chicago design community.
